Other Ways to Become Involved

1. Write down what you think are the core values that shape the way you live your life. Would you like to make any changes in that set of values? If so, what changes?

2. When you watch TV, read the newspaper and magazines, scan the Net, notice     examples of issues in which values are involved. What values seem to be   “celebrated?"

3. In your family, neighborhood, work, personal, and recreation relationships note how similar or how different your values seem to be from “theirs.” How do you feel about what you noted?

4. Try to do business with shops, companies, and service providers that operate with values that you respect.

5. When you vote, take into consideration the values of the candidates that you vote for.

6. If you have a relationship with a school or college, note whether values are included in what is taught there. What would your answer be to the question, “What values are communicated in what is taught in this institution?

7. Ask people that you feel close enough to what the core values are that shape the way that they live. Talk about how your core values are similar or different.

8. Make a list of those you know or know of that effectively express the kind of values that you respect. Note what you can learn from their examples.

9. When you observe or are involved in a situation in which values are important, comment or raise questions that will underscore their importance.
